Karamjeet Kaur is an MDVL Woman Entrepreneur. She’s the mother of a teenage son and daughter and separated from her husband 12 years ago. She lives in Nangal Kalan and keeps her cows at Phallewal Community Dairy Unit. Her son is striving to be a scientist and is currently in the final year of his B.Sc and her daughter is in 10th class.
Sunita Rani is only 25. She’s a widow and the mother of a young son. Her late husband, Kuldeep Singh, had been a well-known tailor in their village, Kotli, and provided well for his wife and son. But sadly he died from a heart attack when their son was only 3 months old. Despite his family being a large one, support for Sunita Rani was not there and she gradually found herself without the means to earn a living.

Harbans Kaur, 55 years old, W/O Nachattar Singh lives in the village Gurma, Punjab and works at the Mukandpur CDU since Nov 24, 2010.
Harbans, mother of three children, Avtaar Singh, Balvir Singh and Baljinder Kaur was a house wife as her husband and older son, Avtaar, managed all household expenses. Nachattar used to do labour work and Avtaar worked in the electricity department.

Surjeet Kaur, is an MDVL Women Entrepreneur. She is 60 years old and lives in the village of Qila Raipur in Punjab, India with her husband 75 year old husband, Daljit Singh. Surjeet is a step mother to two boys and biological mother of one daughter.

“I’m so happy” says Manjit “I finally feel that there is a better future for me and my husband – one where we can afford the medical attention he needs and I have time to care for him”

Bhupinder excitedly declares that today is the first step to her being “an independent lady”. “I will now be able to afford to pay for the books for my son to go to school”
LifeBuilder’s UK Director of Operations, Melanie Brown, has had her letter published in the latest issue of Asian Voice. Melanie writes about LifeBuilder’s Women Dairy Enterprise scheme and praises Baroness Flather’s view of how women’s economic empowerment is the way to reduce poverty.
