LifeBuilder’s Mother & Baby health Camp to Mark World Population Day 2010: Everyone Counts

Medicine DistributionLifeBuilder India today, 11th July 2010, held a camp to mark World Population Day 2010 in Mini Chappar village, Qila Raipur district, near Ludhiana. Pregnant women and those with babies up to 1 year old were invited from Mini Chappar, Chappar, Latala, Dhoorkot, Ranguwal and Ghugrana.

The camp was inaugurated by Bibi Gurdial Kaur Khangura who said “This camp is a good way to mark World Population Day. Hopefully, when these children grow up, we won’t need to run camps for their children, as every citizen of this area will have better access to quality healthcare”.

Four doctors led by Dr Kamaljit were present at the camp to attend to the women, and the specific healthcare needs of them and their babies. Medicines such as folic acid (essential for pregnant women) were provided free of cost to the ladies attending, courtesy of LifeBuilder.

World Population Day 2010 is themed around this being a census year. LifeBuilder chose to represent that sentiment by working with the youngest citizens of India, in one of the poorest areas near Ludhaina with the theme “Everyone Counts” – including the youngest citizens.

Dr Usha Dingra was also on hand to counsel the ladies as to the importance of registering the birth of their children as soon as possible and of ensuring all babies are vaccinated according to recommendations.

The camp was a great success with many women attending to seek healthcare and guidance for their own and their children’s wellbeing. Some women also brought older children and asked us to help them, which of course we did. LifeBuilder’s Director of Operations (London), Melanie Brown said “I’m delighted that LifeBuilder can conduct this camp to coincide with the opening of the London office of LifeBuilder. I hope we can carry out much more similar work in the future.”
