News from down on the farm - LifeBuilder’s Women Dairy Entrepreneurs. Wednesday 16th February 2011

Well it has been a busy time for LifeBuilder's Women Dairy Entrepreneurs and we have been working hard so that we can accept more women on our women dairy entrepreneur programme (you can read more about how this project helps to reduce poverty here).

Welcoming more of our bovine friends LifeBuilder Cow

LifeBuilder’s social enterprise partners on this project, MDVL, have been busying away building a new milking parlour at Mukandpur in Punjab, India. This will allow more women to house their cows here meaning that we will have the physical space to help more women become entrepreneurs. So far we have been able to start training 40 new women. That’s 40 women and their families who have been given an opportunity to take themselves out of poverty.

Poverty Fighting Cow

All a lot of hot air.

At one of our dairies we have set up a bio-digester. Here we take the waste produced by the cows and put it in the bio-digester where it becomes slurry and it then breaks down to and the gas from this process is harnessed and sent through a simple pipe system and then used to create heat. The women on our dairy entrepreneur scheme are now able to use this fuel source to cook some food and make tea when they are working at the dairy. The cows not only help these women out of poverty but are now helping them cook lunch!
