Vocational training

Catering Hotel and Kitchen Management girl at workWhen you have a skill, you can find an income. However when you are stuck in a poverty cycle you do not have spare money to spend on developing your skills, you therefore can not gain a reliable secure income which means you stay in a poverty cycle.

LifeBuilder changes this. LifeBuilder provides vocational training so that the individuals from poor communities can gain the skills they need which will help them pull themselves and their family out of poverty. LifeBuilder works with local businesses in Ludhiana, Punjab, India to identify where there are skills shortages in the local employment market. LifeBuilder and the businesses then work together to provide a vocational training course which will allow the individuals who attend a shot at gaining a reliable income.

Sunil's Story
In 2009 LifeBuilder India partnered with the Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) and Majestic Park Plaza, Ludhiana to develop this training programme - giving young adults from poor families a skill they could use to develop into a secure and long term career.

This opportunity provides rural youth with a transferrable vocational skill that makes them broadly employable in the hospitality industry across India. This is why the project was conceived and executed by LifeBuilder India. In total almost 200 rural youths benefitted from this programme.
